The most expensive webcam of all times?

So now that Skype has finally released a beta for Mac containing video chat function, I set up my desktop to chat with this feature - but not with a ordinary webcam, since I got none.

It was really easy: Plugged in the XL1s from Canon via FireWire (over the external Maxtor drive that you see in the picture), turned it on, and voila, avaiable it was, in the Skype preferences.

The picture quality is very good, only the speed is not that great - but that is up to my connection, or the framerate that Skype has choosen for me. I have no idea.

But looks pretty crazy, doesn’t it?
