ZHU AND GOU DVD Studio Pro

This is a graphical view on the contents of the ZHU AND GOU DVD that I am currently producing. Regular users of the software will immediately recognize that I am using Apple’s DVD Studio Pro to create my wedding movie DVD. Anyway, all the content is created and encoded, the only thing that we are still working on are the subtitles. There will be german, english and chinese subtitles. Since most of the talking is in german, I am doing those first, then translating them to english, then my wife will translate to chinese on the basis of the english ones. What a project! The movie is 1 hour and 10 minutes long, I edited with Final Cut Pro, I had about 16 hours of material available (it was no fun to go through all that, believe me), taken with 4 different cameras so I had to use a lot of color correcting plugins. I even had to widescreen the whole movie since one camera recorded in 16:9. You gotta have patience, I think i watched more at the rendering loading then actual video…

So, dear friends who are waiting for the DVD, it will reach you soon. Stay tuned for more soon.

‘Intense sequences of violence and terror, frightening images, some sexual material and thematic elements’.

Rating: PG-13. Yeah, right… Looks exactly like the original anyway.

Visual OverKILL: The trailer.

ANIMOTO rocks so hard, I decided to make another ‘trailer’, as they call it, on their website. This time with the best images from my Visual OverKILL! set from flickr. Hope you like it!

ANIMOTO: Sweet!

// August 17th, 2007 // 2 Comments » // People's Republic of China, Videography

That’s a nice answer to YouTube and flickr: Mix these! With ANIMOTO, you can take pictures from your flickr account and animate them with music. You can choose music from ANIMOTO’s library or upload your own mp3. ANIMOTO analyzes the pictures and music and creates you a cool video out of it.

Now to the downside: You can only creat free videos that are 30 seconds long. For 3$, you can create a ‘full-length’ video, which means more then even 10 minutes, I guess. Actually, I wanted to invest the 3$ to try it out, but you can only pay with Google and for their service you need a credit card which I don’t have. Why can’t I choose to pay with PayPal, damn it!

Above is a 30 second clip I made with the site. Pretty nice…

Insane rain in Pudong!

// August 2nd, 2007 // 1 Comment » // People's Republic of China, Videography

I just had left my home to walk to Longyang road to grab a subway to go downtown for lunch with a friend, when a insane rainstorm started. In the last days it had rained here every once in a while, mostly for about 5 minutes. So I thought ‘let’s wait’, which was a big mistake. 3 minutes later I was completely wet, from up to down. If you watch the video, the moment where I use the f-word, that’s when the rain changed direction and hit my body completely. A thunderbolt every 20 seconds or so. Insane. Of course a cellphone camera (here: Nokia N93i) can’t really capture the forces of nature, but you get a idea of what was going on. Or is still going on. While typing this entry, it’s still raining outside…

Old Shanghai in Ang Lee’s new movie.

Lust, Caution: Old Shanghai

Lust, Caution is the new movie from Ang Lee. Most of the story seems to take place in ‘occupied Shanghai’, so I am guessing in the late 1930’s? The story is about a ‘ordinary’ girl who has to make a dude fall in love with her, then kill him. That bitch! Just kidding, the story seems way more deep than my words could ever describe it… But that’s what you would expect from a director who can turn cowboys gay, isn’t it? Anyways, there are only very few shots of old Shanghai in the movie, it must be more difficult with each day and every new skyscraper to ‘turn back time’. Most of the shots are pretty dark, which is clever, so the removing of the skyscraper-lights gets kinda easy… I know video editing, just believe me. Still, there are some day shots like in the image above. So check out the trailer if you’re into Shanghai’s history look. The trailer is, of course, available at apple.com in 25 different HD resolutions. Check it out.

RUSH HOUR 3: Now in Europe.

Rush Hour 3

L.A., Hongkong, now Paris: Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker seem to fight their way systematically through all continents. Will RUSH HOUR 4 play in Africa or Australia? Whatever may be the case, I loved the first two parts, and the trailer for the third installment looks quite alright. The story is something like this: Jackie and Chris travel to Paris and get coincidentally mixed up into the search for the baddest criminal gang on earth. Gorgeous women and insane fights once again, now in the city of love. Will the movie be fun like the first parts or a pain in the ass like third parts often are? We’ll see. For now, check out the trailer: 480P (47 megs), 720P (110 megs), 1080P (180 megs).
